Research groups and human resources training programme

As of June 2007, the Programme hosts a total of 490 researchers. Most of them hold the status of "honorary investigators" of the Programme. These scientists are ranked in three levels, after evaluation by their peers of their academic and scientific achievements. There are 50 research groups in Biology, 41 in Chemistry, 7 in Informatics, 4 in Mathematics and 13 in Physics. Since 1992 the Liaison Office is in charge of promoting and linking the Programme to the national and regional productive sectors, both public and private.

Budget

Support for laboratory equipment

Fifty eight percent (58%) of the Programme´s budget is allotted to research projects to purchase expendable and permanent equipment and bibliography.

Repatriation of investigators

The Programme has financially supported the repatriation of more than 70 Uruguayan scientists coming from Algeria, Angola, Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Cuba, France, Mexico, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the United States and Venezuela, thus contributing to their reinsertion with stable positions in the national academic sector. It is a priority now to ensure the permanent radication of these researchers.
